Air Conditioning
Efficient reverse-cycle split, multi-split and ducted systems.

One efficient system for summer cooling and winter warmth, sized to your rooms and installed by licensed technicians. It runs beautifully on your solar*.

Reverse-cycle is the most efficient way to heat and cool an Australian home. It moves heat rather than making it, so one system does both jobs for a fraction of the power of a bar heater or a gas heater*.
The part most buyers miss is size. An undersized unit runs flat out and never gets the room comfortable. An oversized one switches on and off constantly, wastes power and leaves the room clammy. We size each room from its floor area, ceiling height, windows, insulation and aspect.

If you are weighing ducted against several splits, the honest answer depends on how often you use each room. A home with people in every room all day suits ducted. A home that lives in two or three rooms usually does better with splits.
| System | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Split system | One room or an open-plan space | Quickest to install, simplest to service |
| Multi-split | Several rooms from one outdoor unit | Fewer outdoor units, but all rooms share one compressor |
| Ducted | Whole-home comfort with zones | Whole-home comfort, quiet and tidy, needs roof or floor space for ducts |
As a rule of thumb only, a bedroom of 15 to 20 square metres often needs around 2.5kW of cooling, and a large open-plan living area often needs 5kW or more. Ceiling height, west-facing glass, and poor insulation all push the number up.
We calculate it properly at the assessment. Send the floor plan or take photos of each room and we will do the rest.

Cooling demand peaks on hot afternoons, which is exactly when your panels produce the most. A solar system sized with an air conditioner in mind covers a large share of that load. A battery can carry it into the evening.
See how it fits together on our solar and battery storage page, or look at the 10kW solar and battery package, which suits homes with ducted cooling.

Brand availability depends on your system design and location. We confirm the selected equipment and manufacturer warranty in your written quote.
Installing an air conditioner involves refrigerant and electrical work. Installers must hold a refrigerant handling licence, which you can confirm through the Australian Refrigeration Council, and the electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. Older switchboards sometimes need an upgrade first, which we cover on our electrical and switchboard upgrades page.
NSW households may also be able to use the state's Home Energy Saver program, which lists reverse-cycle air conditioning among eligible upgrades. Check your eligibility before you book. Our rebates and incentives guide explains where these programs fit.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| System type | Ducted covers the whole home, a single split covers one room |
| Capacity | Larger rooms need larger units |
| Number of indoor units | Multi-split adds an indoor unit for each room |
| Pipe and cable runs | Longer runs add labour and materials |
| Electrical work | Older boards may need an upgrade |
Installing an air conditioner involves refrigerant, and that work needs a licence. Frostac is ARCtick certified (authorisation AU47746, refrigerant handling licence L139196), so the refrigerant on your job is handled by licensed hands.
